All-Indian Union by nanwe01 All-Indian Union by nanwe01
Logo designed by Krall (Kurarun)

The ALL-INDIAN UNION is the world's most populated country, possesses the world's largest economy by GDP and is the seventh largest country in the world by landmass. The AIU is a member of the IBRI group, of the IO-EA, the UN, the DCG among other organisations, although it is not a member of the UN's Security Council. The AIU has an estimated GDP per capita (PPC) of about 7,100 US$, albeit with considerable internal differences, with a wealthier west and south and the poorer north and east of the Union. The Union capital is New Delhi, located in the self-governing Union Territory of Delhi, and rebuilt from the ashes of the Indo-Punjabi War's Siege of Delhi (1981).
The Union is religiously and ethnically diverse, with practically every major world religion practiced, ranging from Christianity to Jainism, alongside the various Hinduist cults, Islam, Ba'hai to the animist faiths of Assam. The Union is also home to 31 official languages written in more than a dozen co-official scripts and from more than three different family trees although the most spoken language in the Union is Hindustani. The administrative language of the All-Indian Union is, however, English as a neutral language without any particular relation to any one Member State of the Union. The Union is formed by 11 Member States, with their own particular forms of government, ranging from unitary states such as Sindh to the decentralised structure of the Deccan Federation but also including two city-states.
The Union is the end product of the long and arduous road of re-integration into the national community after the breakup of the Union of India during the 1970s crises. The AIU was officially founded by the Treaty of Porbandar in 1993 after the various round of economic, fiscal and military integration that followed the UN-brokered Accords of Lashore. The final stages of the AIU creation were set in 1995 when both the new rupee and the All-Indian Military Force were formally established, replacing the previous Member state militaries and currencies.
The AIU's process of integration attracted much attention during its formative years and several states from the Union's neighbourhood applied for an associate status. Although this was denied for those states outside of the traditional Indian subcontinent cultural area, it was the seed of the modern-day Indian Ocean Economic Area, an economic and monetary union with eight members and one applicant in various degrees of integration across the Indian Ocean.

Your map is great work, but the Himalayan range is in its majotity inhabited by ethnic tibetans - from Kashmir, over north Nepal, to the most eastern part of your India north of Brahmaputra. Therefore the tibetans would be better off with China. The Arakan mountains and Chittadong hills are in turn inhabited by ethnic burmese and together with Andaman & Nicobar islands should be placed into Burma. A logical territorial gain for your India would be the Maldives and British Indian Ocean Territory further south.

Thanks! However the idea was never to make an exact ethnic map, actually I did not care much for that, even if it's true that separating Baluchistan and the Pashtu makes it seem that way, but that's more of a part of the universe constructed by Kurarun, who made the original map from said universe. Essentially, the exact borders, much like RL India's, are much more determined by political events. Plus just having a hyper-wanked India, as opposed to the somewhat EU-like AIU mess it'd be seemed less interesting at the time. In any case, the original file of the map is so huge and heavy, that I'm not really willing to even open it, for fear of what it might do to my laptop xd

I didn't use just use. But I took them from the maps made by Ezilon, which is a website with road, political and geographic maps for pretty much all of the world's countries.

Thanks! I can't give you precise details, it took many hours and many months in which I stopped because drawing endless layers of mountains is a big pain in the ass. I was looking at your maps, they are not bad! So not need to be so severe with yourself. But if I were to give you advice on this (and it's not like I've done thousands of these maps lol), I'd say to use a more differentiated colours for the various altitudes and don't do shading, which looks like you used. As for the style, the colours were taken from the mapping ezilon website, they have great maps and the colour scheme I followed for my India map.

As for the rest, it's a matter of practice, so I can't tell you much more.

It took me two months to do that map and the method that i used was so limitating that my pc (in particular my i7 4790k) screamed due to the effects used. And the image is big but no so big the lag spikes and freezing that caused. I'd prefer to stay 4 years doing mountains in a programs that don't give me problems instead of getting crazy to wait stupid processes beacaus i changed very few pixel. Other than that in that map I tried already to use vectorial programs to do railways and main streets; but using more than 1 program is a pain in the ass when you must made a single change. The same for rivers: i used illustratur but I couldn't get with a method to make rivers tapered (because i do allitterally know nothing about vectorial graphic).

Other than that phtoshop is completely useless when it comes to striped lines of borders, wich i want to use to make a fusion of political and geographical maps.

Another factor is the link between landmass and coastline, i don't think that i could achieve this level of detail with photoshop, due to pixel limitation.

Sorry for wrong english in case.

Perhaps. In the meantime, we can enjoy the maps :p

Btw, you should upload to Deviantart the AIU emblem. I might try my hand at designing a logo for the Union Government, since I have an idea, but I'll wait until I return to NL and I have more free time.

Yeah, I haven't uploaded anything for a while so I could upload the AIU emblem. I am pretty proud with how it came out! :D

What do you mean by "a logo for the Union Government"? Like, an alternative to the emblem I made?

You should be. It looks great.

Nah, I was thinking of a specific logo for the main institutions (Premiership, Parliament, Supreme Court) that would be different from the AIU's own logo. Inspired by the Spanish Govt's usage of the façade of the Premier's residence as a the official symbol of the Premiership as an institution (see: www.lamoncloa.gob.es/Theme/LaM…)

Ah, cool! The Icelandic Althing has something similar: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Althing

Is there an existing building you're thinking of using, or are you gonna make one up?

Since Hindustani is the most widely-spoken language in the Indian Union, are both Devanagari and Perso-Arabic scripts co-official?

Yes, as you can see in the map of the IO-EA (top right corner), both scripts are employed.

Yeah. Actually independent Kashmir pre-dates the AIU in terms of design of this world. But it does, Kashmir is kind of a 'poor' Switzerland in between the three main players of the region (excluding Persia/Iran).
